Digital Language Labs

A Digital Language Lab is a computer-assisted language learning system which allows students to learn language skills such as communicative english, phonetics, grammar, writing, listening and other language skills in an interactive and networked computer system.

This is considered a positive learning system as it helps students adjust themselves without any pressure and also learn through stimulating multimedia content and hands-on interactivity. The method has proven to be motivational and also entertaining at the same time.

The Digital Language Lab can support two types of learning:

  • Self-paced learning, and
  • Instruction-oriented

In the instruction-oriented system, a teacher is required and helps students achieve the goal by constantly monitoring the progress of the students. In a language lab, the teacher can broadcast teaching materials through the language lab software and also use external media sources such as CD Players, video tapes and the Internet to broadcast teaching content. It allows students to listen, practice, record and learn individually or in pairs.
